Looking for a gluten-free vegan dessert?? we have got your back! And we also promise, your non-vegan friend cannot even recognize its a vegan dessert. Coming to the ingredients, the key ingredient is Buckwheat flour. If you don't know, Buckwheat is not a cereal or grass, in fact it is a fruit that is closely related to wild rhubarb. And it is also said, buckwheat is good source of high quality protein that has all eight essential amino acids.

Below are answers to some common questions about Buckwheat,

Diff between Buckwheat and Plain Flour (All-purpose flour) in baking?

A. Main diff is gluten, buckwheat is gluten-free. And because of the gluten in Plain flour, cookies or other baked foods are crispier compared to buckwheat version (but tastes good).

Can Buckwheat flour help in weight loss?

A.  Buckwheat is rich in fiber, so it fill you up fast and suppress your appetite. And also, it is said buckwheat has more protein than grains.

Is Buckwheat Flour same as Wheat Flour?

A.  No. Despite the name, Buckwheat is not wheat, it is close to rhubarb and it is also gluten-free. Buckwheat is actually seed of a flowering fruit.

Cocoa Vs Cacao :

Cacao is powder of un-roasted cacao beans, which keeps the living enzymes safe and removes the fat (cacao butter). While Cocoa is powder of roasted (at high temp) raw cacao beans.

Both Cocoa and Cacao are healthy in their own ways, just get unsweetened cocoa powder from grocery store.

As already said, the texture and taste of this brownies are no different than the regular brownies (just this are more healthier)

Do you know, Buckwheat is used in the manufacture of gluten-free alcohol.

1/2 Cup Buckwheat Flour

1/4 Cup Almond Flour

1/4 Cup Cacao Powder

1/2 Cup Coconut Sugar (or) Brown Sugar

1/4 Cup Flaxseed Meal (or) Chia Seeds

1 tsp Salt

1 tsp Baking Powder

3/4 Cup Plant Milk

1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1/2 cup Dark Chocolate

1 tbsp Maple Syrup

  • Add all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix till combined well.

  • Now add the wet ingredients and mix till lumps are cleared. Add more plant milk if needed, we need cake batter texture.

  • Now take a cupcake pan and coat the inner edges of pan with coconut oil or use cupcake liners.

  • Add the mixture to pan evenly, leave space on top as this mixture expands.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 F and bake for 20-25 mins.

  • For frosting, melt dark chocolate, add maple syrup and mix to get kind of chocolate ganache texture.

  • Let the cup cakes cool down completely. Add the frosting with a pipping bag or spoon, top with strawberries or cherries.

Note : As the frosting is not actual chocolate ganache, it will harden after 1 hour. So have immediately or add frosting before serve.

VARIATION : Use a mini cake pan or normal cake pan instead of cup cake pan to make a full size cake. Use strawberry frosting instead of chocolate to make it look colorful!

STORAGE : Better have immediately or store in refrigerator for 2 days.
