How to make Vegan Black Pepper Tofu?

Step-by-Step Procedure:

Preparation:

  • We need to prepare tofu ahead to get that crisp!
  • Press tofu using a tofu pressor or using food cans to get rid of excess water. Press for at least 15 mins to remove as much as liquid possible. Tofu presser I used is this.
  • Cut tofu into cubes and lightly dust with corn starch or corn flour, keep it aside.
  • In a small bowl, add soy sauce, sugar, corn starch or cornflour and mix to combine, keep it aside.
  • Finely chop red pepper, ginger, green onion and keep aside.
  • If you are using whole pepper, grind it to fine powder and keep aside.

Process:

  • In a medium sized pan, add cooking oil and let it heat. When oil is hot, add corn starch dusted tofu to pan and roast till all sides are golden brown in color.
  • Turn off heat and remove cooked tofu cubes to a bowl and keep them aside.
  • In the same pan ( with cooking oil ), add chopped red pepper, ginger, ground pepper and cook for 3-4 mins or till red pepper starts sweating.
  • Add precooked tofu and cook for a minute. Now add prepared soy sauce mixture and cook everything for 2 mins.
  • Turn off flame and when it is still hot, add chopped green onions and mix.
  • Serve it warm with cooked rice!
