Ingredients to make Crispy Fried Silken Tofu

Silken Tofu: You can use regular firm or extra firm tofu in this recipe instead of silken tofu, but definitely the texture will be different. When you take a bite of this fried silken tofu, you will be surprised how soft the inside is, it just confuses you visually. I highly recommend using silken tofu over regular ones in this recipe.

Bread Crumbs: Try using herb mixed bread crumbs if possible, it adds flavor without much effort!

Sweet Chili Sauce: One of the best sauces, everyone should have in their refrigerator! It tastes good as it is as a dipping sauce and even much better when combined with mayonnaise. You can also try this Bang Bang Sauce recipe using sweet chili sauce!

How to make Crispy Fried Silken Tofu

Preparation: Add chickpea flour, salt, pepper, around 1/4 cup of water to a bowl and mix without any lumps ( it should be like thin gravy ). Keep it aside, this acts as egg white. In another wide-mouth bowl, add bread crumbs and keep them aside.

Prepare Silken Tofu: Remove silken tofu carefully from the box and place it on a cutting board. Cut into cubes and keep aside.

Process: Heat oil for deep fry. Take a cut cube of silken tofu, dip in chickpea mix and then coat in bread crumbs, add in hot oil carefully and fry till all sides from golden brown in color. Keep flame in medium to avoid burned outside and raw inside. Remove from oil and place on a plate lined with a paper towel. Repeat for all cut cubes of tofu.

Dipping Sauce: Let fried tofu cool a bit before serve, in the meantime prepare dipping sauce. Add mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce to a bowl and mix to combine. The dipping sauce is ready to serve, add 1 tsp of lime juice if needed.

Serve: Serve fried silken tofu warm with dipping sauce on side.

  • 4 tbsp Chickpea Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper or as needed

  • Cooking Oil for deep fry

Dipping Sauce

  • 3 tbsp Vegan Mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Sweet Chili Sauce
  • 1 tsp Lime Juice optional
